Ravi's Corner: Slow Down. You’re Moving Too Fast.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the amount of work you feel like you need to do in a given day? We’ve all been there.

We're living in a society where we are expected to get a lot done in a short amount of time. I know for myself, of course I want to get as much done as possible, but I know I can’t be my best self without giving my mind time to rest every once in awhile.

The key is knowing how to take a break when you’re feeling overwhelmed. The stress and overwhelm from never taking a break can lead to decreased immunity, anxiety, sleep problems and many more issues.

Follow these 4 steps to decrease stress and overwhelm:

1) Become aware of how you feel when you get overwhelmed. Do you get short of breath? Can you feel it in your gut? Do you get irritable or moody?

2) When you notice that you’re feeling stressed, take a 15 minute break the next chance you get and unplug. Leave your phone behind and go for a walk, meditate, or read a book.

3) Prioritize. Choose just one small thing to do once you return from your break. Just one thing. You can get bogged down with huge to-do lists when you’re already in an stressed headspace. Do one thing at a time and don’t think about the next thing you have to do until you’ve finished the last one.

4) Be okay with imperfection. Don’t try to make everything flawless. As you well know, no one can be perfect, so setting your standards that high can actually be a detriment if it’s causing you to stress out.

Here’s to more breaks and less stress!

Cheers,
