About 6 months ago Jodi underwent major surgery to have a benign tumor removed from the C1 area of her spine. The surgery was extremely risky, and she was expected to suffer physical deficits in both her upper and lower body from the surgery. In her own words “ Going in, I was told that I would most likely need rehabilitation and would have to relearn some of my fine motor skills, as well as may have difficulty walking”. The prospect of this was very scary, especially given that fitness is such an important part of my life.” With a positive attitude, an amazing medical team and tons of support from family and friends she underwent the surgery and it was a success! Not only that, but her physical deficits were minimal! “The Doctors I saw were so impressed with the fact that I walked out of the hospital!” I do have some nerve damage and pain but it is not stopping me from getting back to the classes that I love to teach! I have spent the last six months building up my strength, and every class I teach I feel is a blessing and I am so lucky to be back at it! I believe that because I have taken care of my body for so many years, my body took care of me through this surgery and my recovery! For me, life has been about being grateful for what I have, and continuing to be strong for myself and my family.”
