Did you create New Year's resolutions this year? If so, are you still sticking to it? I was shocked to read recently that just 8% of people actually achieve their resolutions.

Given these startling statistics, I wanted to go in a different direction this year. Instead of the typical resolutions that are made on the first day of January and forgotten in a month, I wanted to do something that would stick for the whole year.

The solution: Choosing a word of the year. The concept behind this practice is to decide on one word to focus on for the whole year. This guiding word should sum up how you want to live for the next 12 months. So after much thought, I've decided that my word for 2017 is: balance.

My challenge for you this week is to pick your own word for the year.

Don't be discouraged if a word doesn't come to you right away. You may need to ask yourself a few questions to help guide you to the right word.

Questions to ask yourself may be:

1) How do I want to feel this year?

2) What do I want to focus on this year?

3) What kinds of changes do I want to make this year?

Some example of popular words of the year are:

- Health

- Connection

- Strength

- Patience

- Focus

- Wholeness

- Discipline

- Positive

- Joy

I can't wait to hear what word you decide on!
